Residents in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon are being warned of a possible disruption in garbage pick-up as more than 100 private garbage collectors in the region are now on strike.
Employees with Emterra Environmental, the contractor handling more than half of the region’s garbage and recycling collection, plan to stage pickets Thursday, Nov. 17 after no deal was reached between the company and Liuna Local 183, which represents the workers.
Early Thursday, workers marched near the company’s office on Britannia Road East, near Dixie Road, donning “on strike” signs.
Talks between Liuna Local 183 and Emterra broke down Wednesday. The parties are not currently at the table, LIUNA spokesman Jason Ottey said Wednesday night.
