1,600 Scotiabank workers settle for $20.6M

About 1,600 Scotiabank employees are in line for a share of $20.6 million after an Ontario judge on Thursday approved a revised settlement to end a nine-year legal saga over unpaid overtime at the bank.

“It has been a long road,” said Cindy Fulawka, who was a personal banking representative at a Scotiabank branch in Regina when she initiated a class-action lawsuit against her employer in December 2007.

The suit alleged that thousands of workers were denied overtime pay even though they were assigned more work than could be completed within their standard hours.
