Women employees of the Peterborough Public Library are owed a payout of $845,400 from the city because they’ve been underpaid compared to men who work in male-dominated city jobs, states a new staff report.
The money is intended to compensate the women retroactively to January 1, 2011.
In February, the library’s union (CUPE 1833) and the city agreed on a new pay equity plan that would compensate women working at the library.
A new report from Sandra Clancy, the city’s director of corporate services, doesn’t say how many women will cash in or how much each one will receive. But it does say that the $845,000 is owed.
