On Friday, all the 155 staff, from nurses to care aides, received pink slips at Nanaimo’s Wexford Creek Care Home.
The facility is home to 150 residents, with wide-ranging needs from complex care to private assisted nursing.
Mike Old is with the Hospital Employee’s Union.
“Our members who work at Wexford Creek are very, very upset.
This is not just about their own economic security, and the loss of their jobs, but the impact this is going to have on the residents of the facility and their families.”
