Budget brings high hopes for infusion of funds into education
After years of scrimping, parents, teachers and administrators in Quebec’s public education system are counting on a new era of largesse to be revealed Thursday in the Liberal government’s budget.
A CROP poll released Tuesday indicates they have the support of the Quebec populace, with 86 per cent of respondents saying the government needs to make a “massive” investment into education.
Premier Philippe Couillard forecast as much Friday during a visit to Montreal, saying education is a “national priority,” and promising new funds.
After an increase of 0.2 per cent for education spending seen in last year’s budget and $1 billion in cutbacks over the last five years, increased funding is essential, administrators said.
