Common Front unions happy about deal with gov’t, but will still protest

The heads of the powerful CSN, FTQ and SISP unions representing public sector workers met with reporters Sunday afternoon to discuss the agreement in principal they’ve reached with the government.

The deal includes a 10.25% global salary increase over 5 years. CSN president Jacques Letourneau said this was more than triple the government’s initial offer of a 3% increase.

“When we tripled the offer like we just did, we could, without much hesitation, go see our workers and recommend this proposition,” he said.
