Conciliator called in after short-lived negotiations for Essex County library workers

CUPE says a conciliator has been called in because contract talks for Essex County library workers stalled after just three days of negotiations.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees said management has called for conciliation with the Ministry of Labour.

“Our members serve our community with pride and passion,” said Lori Wightman, unit chair for CUPE 2974.1. “We are from this community and we are here to ask our library board to urge management to come back to the bargaining table to negotiate fairly and not jeopardize library services by triggering an unnecessary shutdown of our libraries.”
