Government and union meet in last-ditch effort to avert strike at jails

Negotiators for the Ontario government and union representing workers in the province’s jails and corrections facilities are scheduled to meet Friday with the aid of a conciliator in a final attempt to avert strike action.

This third-party help with labour negotiations is being brought in after members of the Correctional Bargaining Unit of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) rejected a tentative three-year contract offer last week.
