Jail strike preparations underway
Ontario’s 6,000 corrections workers and the province are making last-minute preparations for a strike, but have also left the door open for renewed talks next week before a Jan 10 deadline.
Jails have been recently receiving shipments of supplies, from flat screen television sets to blankets and food, for the managers who will take over operations during a strike, correctional officers report.
Inmates in at least one centre have received a notice — obtained by The Free Press — that they must make a double order from the canteens, because there won’t be any deliveries Jan. 8 or 15 due to a possible labour disruption.
