Low enrollment at five Caledon elementary schools triggers accommodation review

School boards are tasked with looking at efficiencies that can be made among their facilities, and at the moment, five Caledon schools are potentially going to be assessed for low enrollment numbers.

The board of trustees for the Peel District School Board will vote tonight (Nov. 22) on a recommendation made by staff to approve a Pupil Accommodation Review (PAR) for Alloa Public School, Alton Village PS, Belfountain PS, Caledon Central PS, and Credit View PS.

According to the Ministry of Education, PAR guidelines are designed to help school boards make efficient use of school space.

This recommendation comes just  24 hours after hundreds of parents from rural communities throughout Ontario were protesting the PAR guidelines at Queen’s Park, who believe there is a sweep of school closures coming down across the province.
