NDP leader Andrea Horwath wants to stop school closures, arguing the process is flawed.
Horwath has launched a petition, which, as of March 15, has more than 520 signatures.
Three Mississauga schools are scheduled to close — St. Dunstan Elementary School, Gordon Graydon Secondary School and St. Gertrude Separate School.
According to a March 9 release, Horwath claims the formula for determining if a school is undercapacity is incorrect because it supposedly does not consider child care and adult education in school buildings.
“The rules for closing schools are broken, and until they’re fixed, not one more school should be shut down,” she said in the release.
