Nova Scotia Government Bans the Right to Strike and Collective Bargaining for 75,000 Public Sector Workers

In spite of recent Supreme Court decisions stating that the right to strike and bargain collectively are protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Nova Scotia Liberal government of Premier Stephen McNeil is in the process of passing legislation that strips these rights from virtually every government worker in Nova Scotia.

Bill 148 places a two-year legislated wage freeze on teachers, nurses, home care workers, janitors, trades people, and just about any other kind of worker you can think of. The Bill removes the right to strike from these workers and bans salary arbitration as well.
