Peel’s top cop and police union infuriated with Police Board, letters show

“Disrespectful tirade.”
“The most offensive presentation I have witnessed in my 34 years of policing.”
These are just a few samples from scathing letters written by Peel Regional Police Chief Jennifer Evans and Peel Regional Police Association president Paul Black to Police Services Board chairman Amrik Ahluwalia in recent days, as the two are deeply angered with how the Board handled a deputation last week by Ranjit Khatkur, chair of the Peel Coalition Against Racialized Discrimination (P-CARD).
Ahluwalia confirmed Wednesday morning (June 22) the Police Board is holding an in-camera meeting this Friday (June 24) to discuss the harshly-worded missives, but wouldn’t comment further on the letters or what’s on the meeting’s agenda.
Khatkur chastised Evans and the police force in her public deputation last Tuesday (June 14), claiming they have not responded appropriately to public and political criticism over the controversial practice of street checks and that Evans and the police force fail to acknowledge  systemic racialized discrimination.
