School board quiet on reports of job cuts

BELLEVILLE – Although officials from the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board won’t confirm a number of job cuts earlier this week, reports suggest lead administrative assistants at the board’s eight high schools received notices.

Trish FitzGibbon, superintendent of human resources for HPEDSB, said she could not comment publicly on personnel matters.

“We’re always going through staffing (reviews) and employee situations are always confidential. We make every attempt to realize any staff reductions through attrition although that isn’t always possible, out of respect for our employees we always treat them in a confidential manner,” she said. “The reality is the board has faced financial challenges in recent years and those challenges are continuing now and into the future, realistically for about the next three years.”
