Strike at CNCC in Penetanguishene would be ‘ugly,’ says union

A strike by guards would create an unsafe situation both inside the walls of the Central North Correctional Centre and in the surrounding communities of Penetanguishene and Midland, says a union official.

Chris Jackel is president of Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 369, which represents 500 corrections workers at the Penetanguishene jail.

“It would look ugly,” he said of a possible strike. “The only people you’d really have managing the inmate population, I’m assuming, would be managers, many of whom have not worked front line for 15 or 20 years.
