Tempers flare on library workers picket line

Police were called to the Essex Civic Centre Thursday morning after the husband of a striking Essex County library worker was involved in a minor tussle with a security guard monitoring the picket line.

Mike Marchand said he pushed a Corporate Investigative Services worker after the guard allegedly “got in his face” three times and bumped him. OPP were called to the scene.

“He got in my grill three times. He was threatening me,” Marchand said later Thursday. “I took a step back and he got in my face again so I pushed him and that’s what I told the police.”

Marchand said before the altercation, he parked his vehicle in front of a van being used by the security firm and then took out his umbrella to block the guard’s cameras.
