Union and Peel Children’s Aid Society approach Sept. 17 strike deadline after talks break off

Union officials said progress was being made when contract talks broke off with the Peel Children’s Aid Society (CAS) Wednesday night.

“We were prepared to continue to negotiate last night,” said Sonia Yung, president for Canadian Union of Public Employees Union (CUPE) Local 4914. “We were thus surprised and disappointed with something that was titled a final offer (by Peel CAS).”

The union represents about 435 frontline support workers and administrative staff at Peel CAS and rejected the final offer put on the negotiation table around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
